COLUMBUS, OH — Protect Women Ohio (PWO) released a new 60-second video today exposing the radical agendas of the out-of-state special interest groups fighting Issue 1 and attempting to hijack Ohio’s constitution. The video, entitled “Caught!,” will run on digital platforms throughout Ohio. The video features a series of social media posts from the ACLU and allies like Planned Parenthood and URGE attacking parental consent and notification requirements, and claiming abortions and sex changes are one in the same.
For months, the ACLU and its allies have lied directly to Ohioans, claiming their dangerous ballot initiative is only about abortion and does not attack parental consent and notification requirements or apply to life-altering sex change surgeries. But the ACLU and its coalition members have made their extreme agenda crystal clear on social media: time and time again they have come out against parental rights and said sex changes are reproductive procedures.
“The ACLU’s agenda is clear: to hijack Ohio’s constitution by fighting Issue 1, strip parents of their rights, and permit minors to undergo sex change operations and abortions without their parents’ knowledge or consent,” said Molly Smith, PWO board member. “The ACLU and its allies have been lying directly to Ohioans’ faces for months and trying to run away from their extreme agenda. But it’s not and they know it.
These special interest groups encourage minors to get sex change surgeries and want to trash parental consent.
On social media they brag:
Planned Parenthood knows it’s not just about abortion. They said it goes hand-in-hand with sex change surgeries.
URGE says parental consent laws are unethical and need to be abolished.
The ACLU – they’re against informing parents about their kids transitioning at school.
It’s obvious the reason these groups are in Ohio is to encourage sex changes and cut parents out of life-changing decisions.
This isn’t he said/she said.
They said it themselves.
Stand up for your rights as a parent.
Stand up against wealthy out-of-state special interest groups by voting YES on Issue 1 on August 8.
Background on Issue 1:
By increasing the threshold for passing constitutional amendments from a 50% simple majority to 60%, Issue 1 will protect Ohio’s constitution from out-of-state special interest groups that too often circumvent the legislature and buy their way into the constitution – like the ACLU is doing in Ohio. Such a change will put Ohio in line with most states. Currently, Ohio is one of only 18 states that allows constitutional amendments to be proposed by outside groups. Of those 18 states, half – including red and blue states – have some form of enhanced requirement for amendments to be adopted.
The hypocrisy of Issue 1’s opponents is on full display. Groups like the ACLU of Ohio, the Ohio Democratic Party and Planned Parenthood all require supermajorities to amend their bylaws yet oppose protecting Ohio’s constitution. PWO is calling the ACLU and its allies out for their blatant double standard.

This extreme anti-parent amendment is just the latest example of the ACLU’s war on parental rights. Background on the ACLU’s war on parents is available HERE. The ACLU has a long and well-documented history of fighting against parental rights, including in Alaska and Indiana. The ACLU specifically calls out parental involvement on its website, saying it would restrict “teenagers’ access to abortion.” Heritage Action recently released a report and video about the ACLU’s attacks on parental rights in Ohio. In recent weeks, the ACLU has denounced parental notification requirements in schools, and the ACLU of Ohio’s chief lobbyist confirmed that stance on Twitter.
